Nafplio Taxaki
Welcome to our online hub dedicated to showcasing one of the most beautiful cities in Greece — Nafplio. This initiative was born from a deep love for Nafplio and its surrounding areas, which together form the Municipality of Nafpliotes.
The city of Nafplio
Nafplio was founded in ancient times and fortified with Cyclopean walls dating back to the Mycenaean era. The historic center sits on the peninsula of the Argolic Gulf, at the northern promontory of Akronafplia. The architectural heritage of its buildings reflects centuries of history — from Byzantine and Mycenaean times through the Frankish, Venetian and Ottoman periods to the liberation of Greece.
Nafplio is a popular tourist destination, just 140 kilometers from Athens. It is renowned for the Bourtzi castle, the Palamidi fortress and the significant archaeological sites nearby. Its streets are filled with restaurants, tavernas, cafes and entertainment venues, while its organized beaches offer every comfort to visitors.

Nafplio is the ideal base for discovering two of Greece's most important monuments — UNESCO World Heritage Sites, just a few minutes away.
Mycenae — the city of Agamemnon
Just 30 minutes from Nafplio, Mycenae was the most powerful center of Greece during the Late Bronze Age (c. 1350–1200 BC), giving its name to an entire civilization — the Mycenaean. The citadel, built with the legendary “Cyclopean” walls, welcomes you through the famous Lion Gate.
Within the walls lies the grave circle where the golden “Mask of Agamemnon” was discovered, while just below stands the imposing tholos tomb, the Treasury of Atreus. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mycenae is a journey into the myths of Homer.
Epidaurus — the sanctuary of healing and the perfect theatre
About 40 minutes from Nafplio, Ancient Epidaurus is home to the 4th-century BC theatre, world-famous for its perfect acoustics: a whisper in the orchestra can be heard clearly all the way to the last of its 14,000 seats.
Around it spreads the Asklepieion, the most important healing center of antiquity, dedicated to Asclepius, the god of medicine. Every summer the theatre comes alive again with performances of the Athens-Epidaurus Festival. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Epidaurus combines history, art and natural beauty.
